About The Asylum Clinic Kansas City
The Asylum Clinic Kansas City is a small but rapidly growing 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization providing comprehensive immigration legal services to immigrants in our community. Despite our small size, we manage a large caseload and work collaboratively to navigate the ever-changing policies of the immigration system, which greatly affects our day-to-day work. To ensure that we continue to fulfill our mission of providing excellent legal services, our team works closely together to overcome challenges presented by immigration policy and achieve our client goals.
Our organization was founded with a commitment to uphold the rights and dignity of all immigrants, regardless of their background or circumstances. We believe that every person deserves access to high-quality legal representation and comprehensive support services, particularly those who have fled their home countries due to violence, persecution, or other forms of hardship. At ACKC, we are proud to be a trusted and respected resource for immigrants and their families. We are committed to fighting for their rights and providing them with the tools and resources they need to build a brighter future.
About the Afghan Legal Services Project
After the American withdrawal from Afghanistan in August 2021, approximately 76,000 Afghans were evacuated and brought to the United States. Primarily, these individuals were given parole status that allowed them to remain in the United States for 2 years. Parole status provides no assurance that they can remain in the United States after their parole expires. As a result, Afghan parolees are a vulnerable group, arriving in a new country with no guarantee they will be allowed to stay and faced with an overwhelming immigration process, fearing being forced to go back to Afghanistan where they could be harmed.

The Missouri Office of Refugee Administration has designated Asylum Clinic Kansas City to serve as legal services coordinator for the resettlement agencies serving Afghan evacuees in western Missouri. In 2021, western Missouri welcomed approximately 850 Afghan evacuees, most of whom now need legal assistance to file for asylum, special immigrant visas or other immigration options. We are proud to serve this role and invite you to join us in this important work.
